A Day at the Range Costs Less Than You Think

Looking for a way to have a genuinely great afternoon without spending a ton? A trip to the shooting range might be the most underrated budget activity out there.  Most ranges charge $15-25 for range time. Bring your own targets and ammo and you've got 2-3 hours of focused, skill-building fun that gets you off your phone and into the zone.

If you are in Southern California and want a great day of cheap shooting fun- Head to the Big Bear Valley Sportsman's Club.  The view from the club is great, the range officers are friendly- and the cost is $10 for as long as you want to shoot.  It drops to $5 each if you join the club which costs about $35 a season (Opens in April- closes in October).  You do need a little higher clearance vehicle as the club is about a half mile up the hill, and the dirt road is not as flat as it once was.  any small SUV is ok, but maybe not your Porsche 911 or similar.

It's a great date, a great outing with friends, and one of the few hobbies where you can actually measure yourself getting better every time you go.
